The Archbishop of Naples was welcomed yesterday morning by President Aurelio de Laurentiis, upon his arrival at 10.30 at the Sport Village Hotel in Piana S. Liberata in Castel di Sangro (AQ) and then moved to the Teofilo Patini stadium, also in Castel di Sangro, in the preseason retreat of preparation for the new football season that will begin on September 19, the day of celebration of San Gennaro, the patron saint of the city of Naples, the most famous and well-known saint of Italy in the world.
The Archbishop spoke of the expectations and wishes of the Neapolitans to the team and the club, bringing the blessing of the Lord, so that everyone, player or manager, can best express their vocation, their talents and their own commitment, enhancing the moral and social value of sport and of football.
The President De Laurentiis, the Vice President Edoardo De Laurentiis, the Managers, the Coach Rino Gattuso, the technical staff and the whole group of players, gathered in a semicircle on the field to listen to the words of the Cardinal, whose statements were:
“I could not fail to be close to Napoli to symbolically bring you the embrace of many faithful and fans who told me to support our favorite team. We love you and the Neapolitan people believe in you. I wish Gattuso well and I tell you, Mister, that your work will be rewarded, you will be able to get what we want both in Italy and in Europe. Trust yourself, play as you are doing as a team, all together united and strong! Because if the team wins, each of you wins and Napoli wins! Strength and courage. The presence of so many fans is a sign that you will always be supported by the passion and love of a people who are close to you. Good luck and may the Lord bless you “
The Archbishop then received the usual homage of the new blue shirt with the autographs of the players.
