The Spanish Super Cup will return to Saudi Arabia. On January 13, the first semi-final of the Final Four of the competition will be played and the next day the other semi-final, while the final will be played on January 16.
The competition will return to the country for the second consecutive year, according to the sports newspaper As. The competition will be played with an audience in the stands and without the final of the Copa del Rey, pending to be able to play with fiction.
There will be 4 clubs that will participate in the competition, these are: Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Real Sociedad and Athletic Club will play the competition; he would be the first and second classified in the League and the finalists of the Copa del Rey.
The contract signed by the RFEF with Saudi Arabia is for three years, for which it will enter 120 million euros, according to the media. Half of this money is distributed among the participating clubs.
In fact, this figure led to a complaint from Valencia CF, which in June filed a lawsuit before the ordinary courts for the distribution of money established by RFEF for participating in the Spanish Super Cup, questioning the asymmetric distribution of money between the four participants in the tournament, as it received less income than the three remaining contenders, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid.
In this way, the competition that in the past was developed in a single final is greatly enhanced, obtaining greater visibility for the clubs involved in the final phase and making the Copa del Rey itself a more coveted trophy to participate in the Super Cup. Clearly the distribution will be different between the 4 clubs that will participate.
This type of organization may in the near future be an example for the other Leagues in Europe, from the Premier League to Serie A.
